Onion, Cilantro and Lime Juice Relish

This onion, cilantro and lime juice relish is such a great addition to tacos or any Mexican dish. The lime juice mellows the strength of the onions & the cilantro adds a great flavor. It’s has a wonderful crunchy texture and adds a nice depth of flavor to tacos, chimichangas, enchiladas, and tostadas or as a topping to most Mexican dishes.

Onion, Cilantro, and Lime Juice Relish:

  • 1-2 yellow onions, diced
  • 1 handful of cilantro, chopped
  • 2-3 limes juiced

How to Make Onion, Cilantro and Lime Juice Relish

Combine the onion and cilantro together in a bowl. Add lime juice & stir well until evenly combined.

Cover and allow it to sit in the refrigerator for a few hours to allow flavors time to mingle.

  1. Hi there – I came from Tastespotting. This is going to sound goofy, but I think our blogs are friends! If you look at mine you’ll see why (similar colors, for one…)

    anyway, I love that onion/cilantro thing on carnitas. I started making it after eating it at taquerias (and after trying to make a pico de gallo and realizing I had no tomatoes).

  2. This looks great. Do you think it would work if I cooked the onions a bit to get them a bit more caramelized then added the cilantro and lime?

      You can certainly try it and see how it turns out. I would cool down the onions completely before mixing them with the cilantro.

      I will say, the reason this relish is so delicious is the fresh crunch of the onions. The lime juice mellows their flavor and it’s really wonderful raw & fresh.
