Steamed Artichokes

Steamed Artichokes
These steamed artichokes are a childhood favorite! It was a very special treat growing up when my Mom would bring artichokes home. We used to boil them & eat the leaves dipped in mayonnaise (which is still delicious to me)! I have changed my cooking method to steaming and have added a few more seasonings to the mayonnaise for dipping. My children LOVE steamed artichokes and think of them as a special treat too.

How to Make Steamed Artichokes

  • One artichoke per person
  • Bay leaf
  • 6 cloves of whole garlic

Add a bay leaf & garlic cloves to a large pot of add water over medium-high. Place the steamer in the pot.

Trim off the sharp ends of the artichoke leaves with scissors, if desired. Cut the top and stem off and clean well. Place the artichoke in the steamer and cover with a lid.

Steam for 30-35 minutes, or until the leaves can be easily removed.  Remove from the steamer and set on a serving plate. Serve hot or at room temperature with your preferred dipping sauce. Enjoy.

Soy Garlic Aioli:

  • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 clove of garlic minced
  • 1-2 tbsp soy sauce, to taste

Mix the above ingredients together. If you are feeling extra decadent… try dipping it in:

Other Dipping Options:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Melted butter with 1 clove of minced garlic
  • Fresh lemon juice, to taste

Dip the end of your leaves in the sauces & enjoy!

  1. Hi, Pam,
I would have never thought to mix mayonnaise and soy sauce… and with the touch of garlic this sauce is delicious to go with the artichokes.
Since I haven’t got a steam cooker I had to improvise one. And it’s very easy to do using a cooking pot, a strainer and a cover.
P.S. I’ve published the recipe in my blog 😉
