Caramelized Onion Dip

Caramelized Onion Dip

I can’t believe it has taken me so long to make caramelized onion dip. It tastes a million times better than store-bought and it’s so easy to make. We were having friends over for dinner so I decided to make some dip to serve prior to dinner. The caramelized onions took about 30 minutes to cook and smelled amazing! I used a combination of mayonnaise, cream cheese, and sour cream for a nice tangy base. I seasoned up the dip with a bit of soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce and a bit of fresh parsley. This caramelized onion dip was served with ruffled potato chips and enjoyed by all – even my son who doesn’t like onions.

Once the skillet is getting dry, add a bit of white wine, stir then let it sizzle out. Stir the onions often, adding a tablespoon of water to keep the pan from drying out as needed, until the onions are caramelized and deeply golden brown, about 30 minutes. Set aside to cool.

Season with a bit of soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, to taste. Set aside to allow flavors to mingle for 30 minutes. Serve with thick ruffled chips. Enjoy.

  1. The storebought onion dip packets are one of my guiltiest pleasures in life reserved only for when my MIL pulls them out (as she always does) when we come over. Thankfully, that is not often. But I love that it’s so easy to make at home!
