Oven Baked “Fried” Pickles

Oven Baked "Fried" Pickles

My daughter is a huge pickle fan! Last year, while dining out, she discovered fried pickles and fell in love. What’s not to like about salty dill pickles with a crispy coating dipped in a spicy ranch sauce? I decided to try making them for her but instead of frying, I made oven baked “fried” pickles. I served these tasty gems with a simple Chipotle Ranch dressing and they paired beautifully. These oven baked “fried” pickles were crispy and delicious without being greasy. My son and daughter thought they were awesome and my husband LOVED them. It was a fun & quick recipe that made my whole family, myself included, happy.

How to Make Oven-Baked “Fried” Pickles

Preheat your oven to broil with the rack in the center of the oven. Line a baking sheet with tin foil then coat with cooking spray.

Make the chipotle ranch, if desired. Click here for the recipe.

Combine the flour with paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, thyme, sea salt, and freshly cracked pepper; mix well.  Side Note: Be careful not to add too much salt because the pickles will already be salty.

Dip the pickle slices into the flour mixture; then dip into the beaten egg, finally coat evenly with the panko crumbs. Place onto the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining pickle slices.

Place into the oven and broil for 3-4 minutes under the broiler, making sure to watch carefully so they don’t burn. Flip the pickles over and cook under the broiler for another 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve with the chipotle ranch, if desired. Enjoy.

  1. Might come down to whether or not the guest likes pickles, but I could easily see these giving rise to some serious love/hate relationships. Thanks for the recipe!

  2. while i don’t seem to like fried pickles, my boyfriend loves them, and i’d be much more comfortable making this version for him!

  3. Reminded me of Aunt Francie’s house when I mistaked a jalapeño for sliced pickle. Quite a surprise!

  4. I love fried pickles so I’m going to try these but I would like to know if the slices should be thick or thin. I would think it will make a big difference.

  5. I’ll have to try these. I LOVE fried pickles, although some are better than others. The cornmeal batter at some restaurants is far too heavy, while a light flour dredge or tempura batter makes them nice & light. Thanks for the recipe! P.S. – pickle chips are so much better than pickle spears (deep fried). 🙂
