Out of Commission

I spent the afternoon at the hospital yesterday due to a little mishap with a very sharp knife. My right index finger has a deep gash that is quite painful and sensitive – I’ll spare you the gory details. I think cooking and typing will be put on hold for a few days until my finger is feeling a little better.

  1. Back in my mind, I've feared this could happen to me. I hope that you will heal fast, no infections and will be good as new as soon as possible. Nobody's going anywhere!

  2. Sorry to hear. Sadly, I can't relate – I don't have a knife sharp enough to cut a finger, let alone the food. Growing up my mom did get a set of Cutco knives and made a household rule that no one under age 12 could use them. Soon, every single one of us over age 12 had nearly sliced off a finger or two. She still warns every user to be careful, and they've only been sharpened 3-4

  9. Oh no Pam!!! I am so sorry!! OUCH!! I did this to my left index finger on Christmas Eve a few years back by opening up a bag of shredded cheese with a sharp knife! Such a no no!! I learned my lesson! I hope you heal very quickly!!!

  10. Wow that is scary! I hope everything is okay now and wish you for a speedy recovery. This will be hard to not do much in the kitchen when you love to cook. Maybe you'll have to get those kids busy in the kitchen 😉

  17. I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. I've had two ER visits due to kitchen accidents, one cut that sounds similar to yours and another when I stepped on the blade to my food processor. Stitches both times. I hope you're not in too much pain and you have some time to relax.

  18. Sorry to hear about the finger, but glad it will heal. I use a sharp knife to test the toughness of my skin every now and then.

  36. I feel your pain. After an attempt to use a stick blender instead of a spoon in a small wood bowl to crush garlic for Caesar (sp?) dressing I ended up with a plastic surgeon in the emergency room. Very long story short my left index finger is almost 1/2" shorter than my other one. They saved my nail though, for which I am grateful. Cooking can be dangerous.
