Marbled Chocolate Banana Bread

Marbled Chocolate Banana Bread

I had very ripe bananas to use up so I went in search of a fun new banana bread recipe to try out.  I adapted a recipe from Alida’s Kitchen that looked too incredible to resist.  It made my house smell incredible while it baked and it turned out moist, beautiful, and so delicious.  My kids thought it was the BEST banana bread ever & gobbled up the whole loaf within two days.

How to Make Marbled Chocolate Banana Bread

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Spray a loaf pan with cooking spray and set aside.

Combine the flours, baking soda, and salt together in a small bowl.

In a separate bowl, beat the sugars and oil with a mixer until creamy and smooth.  Add the mashed banana, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla then beat until blended.  Gently fold the flour mixture into the banana mixture and mix batter until just combined.

Place chocolate chips in a medium microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 30-40 seconds or until almost melted.  Stir until smooth (cook for a few more seconds if it’s not completely melted).

Add 1 cup batter to the chocolate, stirring until well combined. Spoon batter into prepared loaf pan, alternating between plain batter and chocolate batter.  Swirl batters together using a knife.  Place additional chocolate chips on top, if desired.

Marbled Chocolate Banana Bread

Bake for 70 minutes, or until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean.  Cool 10 minutes in the pan before removing from pan to wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve.  Enjoy.

  18. Mmmm. Love marbled banana bread. I’ll have to try your recipe!
I am very much in need of a new apron. Mine seem to have all gone missing over the last couple years of moves. I love the black & white full bib – simple, chic, and vaguely nautical, with an hint of whimsy in the ruffled bottom. So cute!

  21. The bread looks delicious, and I love the combination of bananas and chocolate. I saw this yesterday, I just had to go buy some bananas. I hope to try i this weekend, if the bananas are ripe enough.

  22. Oh yumm!! This definately looks delicious. I have always enjoyed banana bread with real banana added, and chocolate is a fav flavor too, so the combination would be delectible.

As for your contest offer… the apron I like best is “Chocolate swirl” (hehe. of course) and my email addy since it’s requested for possible notification is [email protected] Fingers crossed.

  23. I’m in love with the aprons. I think the spicy polka dots one is sooo cute… although I think an OHIO state one needs to be a choice too 😛

  24. The recipe looks delicious. Will definitely try. I might decrease the sugar though; my sweet tooth is on the subtle side.

For the contest: The New York apron is so cute :3

  25. I”d love to win an apron for my new wife! We enjoy making your recipes together and I know that she’d love the Chevron Full Bib Apron Pink and Gray!

  26. This banana bread recipe is so delicious! I also have my own killer banana bread recipe that I usually use, and I incorporated your ideas for adding in the chcolate to my recipe (this was the second time I made it). I also adapted the recipe just a bit by adding whole chocolate chips into the mix along with melting them and stirring them into the batter…the result was a super chocolately banana treat! The whole loaf was gone within 24 hours between myself, my hubby, and our three kids. Yum!!

  27. I am just making the bread and the “sugar and oil” step isn’t working. It’s not getting creamy and smooth. Any suggestions?

    1. It won’t be creamy like it would be if you were mixing together butter & sugar. Just beat it until it’s well combined then add the other ingredients. I hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Pam

  28. I know this comment is late but I really like this recipe. I do cut the sugar in half though, and use some spelt flour in it too. Thanks for the nice recipe!

  29. I had four black bananas and was looking for a loaf recipe when I found this one. I had to add a “non ripe” banana to make up the right amount, but it turned out great! I also threw in a handful of chopped walnuts! The loaf was very moist inside while the outside was just right.. not soggy!! I’ll certainly be making this again. Thanks for sharing!
